The rebirth of MEC scissor lifts

Jim Tolle (left) and Craig Braun
The MEC brand has an excellent reputation for quality and performance that dates back 50 years. In 2001, the Aerial Work Platform division of Mayville Engineering Company in Wisconsin made a decision to cease operations of their Scissor Division with no apparent buyer in the wings.
However, in 2004, Jim Tolle and Craig Braun, of Equipment Parts Wholesale, Fresno, California, finalized a deal that included purchase of existing inventory, parts, tooling and design rights.

Within a few months, new generation MEC machines were being built in Selma, California, in the building that once housed UpRight, Inc. Today, MEC manufactures and distributes ten of the original 12 MEC models and have added two additional products: the 2633ES and the 3772RT.

MEC Aerial Work Platforms is carrying on the MEC tradition of high quality products. “When most manufacturers are directing their efforts at aggressively removing cost and ultimately cheapening their machines, MEC is concentrating on reducing service calls and helping Rental Companies keep their machines up and running,” say Jim Tolle, MEC President. “While others are removing metal, MEC prides itself on building units that last and that feel strong” he says.

In 2006, MEC expanded its product line to include two new models of Telescopic Handlers – The TH60 with a rated load capacity of 6,000 lbs. and a lift height of 41.5 ft. and the TH80 with a rated load capacity of 8,000 lbs and a lift height of 41.5 ft. “With European styling, the MEC Telehandlers look sleek and fast (which they are with a travel speed of 21.1 mph (35 kp/h), yet they are equipped with all the tough performance specifications that North American rental companies and their customers demand.” Tolle emphasizes.

MEC scissor lifts and telescopic handlers are available through MEC distributors or for more information, please contact MEC at its International headquarters:
